International Division’s Sports Event – Dodgeball Game

The sun is shining brightly now in November, with the autumn wind blowing gently.  The Autumn Dodgeball Fun Game held by the International Division of No.2 High School of East China Normal University begun at 3:00 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2020.

The players ran hard in the blazing sun on the playground.

Players from Grade 9 and Grade 10 galloped and struggled on the playground like an arrow from a bow. Whenever a player was hit by a ball, the sound of cheering and shouting in the audience came out incessant and deafening. The sound seemed to be an invisible force, pushing the players to struggle courageously. The players were full of energy and vitality, accompanied by the sound of cheering.  The game ended with the last-gasp goal from the 10th-grade players, and finally they won by one score.

On the other side, the friendship game between players from Grade 11 and Grade 12 seemed to be a powerful confrontation. At the beginning of the game, the team from Grade 12 showed a strong desire to win. They launched a fierce attack on the team from Grade 11, which was unable to gain an offensive advantage and had to defend. Scores in the first round of the game were rather close, and finally the team from Grade 12 won.

When the second round started, players of Grade 11 adjusted their tactics and made quick and fierce attack with all-around team cooperation. They took full advantage of their jumping ability to repeatedly grab the offensive balls from the opponents. The game showed a greater difference in score and finally the team from Grade 11 won.

In the final round, there was only one player left in the team from Grade 11, and the atmosphere got extremely intense. The team from Grade 12 brought the game to a climax with a wonderful last-gasp goal! Finally, they won the game.

The sport of dodgeball originated in the United Kingdom. With the immigration from Europe to the New World, it became popular in the US in the 20th century and it spread to Japan as a sport event in primary and middle schools. The PE curriculum in the International Division of No.2 High School of East China Normal University energetically promotes various sports, with focuses on fun, teamwork, physical training, and competitions. The year’s game was held in a relaxing afternoon when the mid-term exams were just over. After the intense exams, cheering, laughing, and whooping wafted on the playground, intertwined into a youthful movement. There are no losers in real sports and those who fight tenaciously with a strong body are winners!
